![]() He was given a destiny which he was forced to live by, but still gave it meaning even though he was not doing anything that truly meant anything to anyone but himself. When Camus says that the myth of Sisyphus is an invitation to live and create, he is saying that from this story we can learn to live on although life is meaningless, and create meaning in life as Sisyphus does. The world is merely arbitrary effects of causes that manifest and create life as we know it. “ I agree with this statement as I believe that life is meaningless unless we create our own meaning. That realization continues to pay dividends every day.In the preface of his essay, The Myth of Sisyphus, Albert Camus states that the story is “A lucid invitation to live and to create, in the very midst of the desert. By giving me the space to express my own interpretation and to argue for my own values, my philosophy class taught me the importance of education for education’s sake. Instead of seeing college as a direct stepping stone to a career, I learned to see college as a place to first learn and then seek a career or enhance an existing career. More important, that class and paper helped me understand education differently. I left engineering and went on to study law and eventually became a lawyer. This class and assignment, however, gave me the self-confidence, critical-thinking skills, and courage to try a new career path. I never expected to enjoy a philosophy class and always expected to be a math and science person. What I learned through this process extended well beyond how to write a college paper. My relief and newfound confidence upon reading his comments could not be overstated. He wrote that my reading of the essay was very original and that my thoughts were well organized. The professor gave me an A on the paper, and his notes suggested that I wrote an effective essay overall. ![]() It turned out, however, that I had nothing to worry about. I remember feeling simultaneously afraid and eager to get the paper back in my hands. The professor gave our papers back to us with grades and comments. Then, a week or two later, came judgment day. I finished the conclusion paragraph, had my spouse proofread it for errors, and turned it in the next day simply hoping for the best. Through all the uncertainty, I continued writing the best I could. I remember being unsure of myself, wondering if what I was saying made sense, or if I was even on the right track. I had my interpretation of “The Myth of Sisyphus,” and I had my main reasons for interpreting the essay. Eventually, after a lot of stress, my ideas became more organized and the words fell on the page. I brainstormed, made idea maps, and even wrote an outline. I decided to try every prewriting strategy I could find. ![]() My notes and ideas were all present, but the words were lost. Next, when I sat down to write, the words just did not come to me. This assignment gave me nothing I was completely on my own to come up with my individual interpretation. What was my interpretation? I could think of a million different ways to interpret the essay, but which one was my professor looking for? In math class, I was used to examples and explanations of solutions. Yet even after I took all these notes and knew the essay inside and out, I still did not know the right answer. He simply said, “I want to see what you come up with.”įull of anxiety, I first set out to read Camus’s essay several times to make sure I really knew what was it was about. Even more troubling was that the professor refused to give us any guidelines on what he was looking for he gave us total freedom. What is the right way to do this assignment, I wondered? I was nervous about writing an incorrect interpretation and did not want to get my first assignment wrong. ![]() So when I received my first philosophy assignment that asked me to write my interpretation of the Camus essay, I was instantly confused. I understood the logic and was very good at it. I always liked the way mathematics had right and wrong answers. I entered college intending to earn a degree in engineering. However, through all the confusion in philosophy class, many of my questions about life were answered. Our first assignment was to write a short response paper to the Albert Camus essay “The Myth of Sisyphus.” I was extremely nervous about the assignment as well as college. The first class I went to in college was philosophy, and it changed my life forever.

![]() I see a lot of tutorials out there on how to make SVGs with different software. This applies to wedding photos, your dog, your cat, grandma and a raccoon if that is what pleases you. ![]() This is a quick tutorial on how to turn any photo into a cut file WITHOUT ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE in Design Space. This happens via a dedicated field in the Web App Manifest. In the meantime, I will just have a decal of him. To make this work, the app needs to let the operating system know via the Web Share Target API what types of data it can accept. The other way round, SVGcode can also act as a share target and receive files from other apps. It is therefore important to obtain the file handle before the SVG optimization happens, so the user gesture is not invalidated by the time the optimized SVG is ready. Showing the file save dialog requires a user gesture. Whenever an image gets saved, it is optimized via the svgo library, which may take a moment, depending on the complexity of the SVG. This allows me to keep a reference to previously opened files and to continue where I left off, even after an app reload. To open input image files and save the resulting SVGs, I use the File System Access API. Installing SVGcode and activating the Window Controls Overlay customization. You can see this get activated at the end of the install flow. To maximize the available screen real estate, SVGcode uses Window Controls Overlay customization by moving its main menu up into the titlebar area. Workbox is a set of libraries that can power a production-ready service worker for Progressive Web Apps, This pattern may not necessarily work for all apps, but for SVGcode's use case it's great. The app is based on the Vanilla JS template for Vite.js and uses the popular Vite plugin PWA, which creates a service worker that uses Workbox.js under the hood. SVGcode is an installable Progressive Web App and therefore fully offline enabled. Now that you have seen what the app is capable of, let me show you some of the APIs that help make the magic happen. Posterizing an image to reduce the number of colors. When I'm happy with the result, I can save the SVG to my hard disk and use it wherever I like. ![]() SVGcode allows me to do this per color channel, and see the resulting SVG as I make changes. Posterization in SVGcode #Īn important step for vectorization, especially for photographic images, is posterizing the input image to reduce the number of colors. I can improve the result by de-speckling the tracing by suppressing speckles of up to, say, five pixels. But zooming in on the Chrome logo, you can see that the tracing wasn't perfect, and especially the outlines of the logo look a bit speckled. I can now zoom into the image, and as you can see, the edges stay sharp. When I drop the file, the app traces the image color by color, until a vectorized version of the input appears. This is a PNG raster image that I then drag onto the SVGcode app. I start with the teaser image for Chrome Dev Summit that I downloaded from the ChromiumDev Twitter channel. Using SVGcode #įirst, I want to show you how to use the app. With SVGcode, I just stand on the shoulders of a command line tool called Potrace by Peter Selinger that I have converted to Web Assembly, so it can be used in a Web app. Credit where credit is due: I didn't invent this. I have built a PWA called SVGcode that can help you convert raster images to vectors. Scaling up a vector image with no loss of quality. Vector graphics have an advantage over raster graphics in that they may be scaled up or down to any resolution without pixelation. These points are connected by lines and curves to form polygons and other shapes. In contrast, vector graphics are images that are defined by points in a coordinate system. Scaling up a raster image makes it look pixelated. Have you ever scaled an image and the result was pixelated and unsatisfactory? If so, you have probably dealt with a raster image format such as WebP, PNG, or JPG. (If you prefer watching over reading, this article is also available as a video.) When by 1835 the supports stopped being effective the sagged fabric volume collapsed down the arm and merged into a new sleeve fashion. The buckram was replaced with either whalebone hoops in a cotton cover or feather filled pads. The full length gigot or leg of lamb sleeve or the gigot de mouton known as the leg of mutton sleeve, was first seen in 1824. The bodice décolletage was so exposed by the pull of the wide sleeves that it really showed off the chest, throat and the sloping shoulders. The sleeves of the Romantic Era are the main feature and were built on an inverted triangle bodice. The Gigot or Gigot De Mouton Sleeve 1825-1833 So gauze sleeves became very fashionable by the mid 1820s and were worn until the sleeves subsided to new styles. The arms and décolletage along with the highly desirable and visible sloped shoulders left some women feeling quite undressed and exposed. Generally the beret sleeve was worn for evening. Sometimes a sheer oversleeve of silk embroidered shimmering gauze covered the beret puff. The outer circle was gathered and set into the armhole. There was an opening in the centre for the arm and this was gathered and bound into a band. In response to customer requests on one of their forums, Mozy explained why it would be "impossible" for a storage service to protect users' privacy by encrypting the file and folder names customers store in a way Mozy could not read. The deception had been so effective that leading software engineers were shocked to discover Dropbox had full access to the data they had stored online. In 2009 when Dropbox launched, they made misleading claims about the encryption of customer files and their internal ability to access customer's data or provide that data to 3rd parties, leading to a well publicized FTC deceptive trade practices complaint. SpiderOak was one of the first companies to use this phrase commercially and the need has only grown stronger.Īt the heart of the issue is the difficulty for end users to decipher the terms cloud vendors use to describe their security. The encrypted data becomes unverifiable by network nodes.Ī few cryptographers have noticed SpiderOak's marketing term Zero Knowledge is inconsistent with the academic definition. This is because the nodes in the network can’t determine whether the sender really had that money or whether they previously sent it to someone else, or never had it in the first place. A block chain that encrypts transaction data (making it private) and lacks zero-knowledge proofs also lacks the assurance that all the transactions are valid. The property of allowing both verifiability and privacy of data makes for a strong use case in all kinds of transactions, and we’re integrating this concept into a block chain for encrypting the sender address, the recipient address, and the amount. > Zero knowledge proofs are a scientific breakthrough in the field of cryptography: they allow you to prove knowledge of some facts about hidden information without revealing that information.
